Lucky Records’ collection of media is just insane; “A library of sound,” as a Grapevine writer once described the locale. Lucky Records is indispensable to the Reykjavík music scene, cheering on new releases while maintaining their catalogue of great records of the past. Further, they stay tuned in to international records for the music-hungry folks, and constantly share their new additions to the store’s social media.

“Excellent vibes,” summarised a member of this year’s panel. “The city simply wouldn’t be the same without it,” reads last year’s blurb for 12 Tónar. Whether it be their stock of Icelandic records, 500-ISK-or-less section, celebration of vinyl DJ sets, or general fostering of the music community, 12 Tónar is one of those spots that you are forever grateful for. If you fancy a game of chess or a beer while crate diving, 12 Tónar is the spot for you.

Smekkleysa
Hverfisgata 32
Celebrating their 40th year, Smekkleysa is a storied label that continues to purvey a well-curated record store. Smekkleysa is best visited with an open mind, allowing a record you’ve never heard of to draw you in and convince you that you’ve gotta check it out. They continue as a central space in the scene: they’re a hub for electronic radio station DRIF, a concert venue, and an exhibition space. Truly unmatched.
