There’s a lot to do and see in Reykjavík — how do you pick which pool to hit up from the dozens of options just in the capital area? Which mountain gets your hiking boots? And let’s be real — where do you catch those northern lights that’ll give you solid bragging rights back home? It wasn’t easy, but our panel of local experts has handpicked this must-do list of the Best Activities in Reykjavík for 2025. Take it from us — it’s all worth checking out.
Best Gallery
Þula
Grandagarður 20
The brainchild of Ásdís Þula Þorláksdóttir, the gallery not only changed its name (formerly Hverfisgallerí), but also moved to a new location at the Marshall House a few years ago. What hasn’t changed, however, is its ambition. This is one of the reasons we’ve consistently highlighted Þula (or its Hverfisgallerí iteration) as a runner-up over the years. Last year, the gallery showcased an exciting roster of both seasoned and rising Icelandic artists, and brought in intriguing international talent. We’re looking forward to seeing how this woman-led space at Marshall House will continue to evolve in the years ahead.
Runner-Up:
Kling & Bang
Grandagarður 20
Kling & Bang and The Reykjavík Grapevine are almost the same age, and in the 20+ years since its opening, this gallery has consistently brought Reykjavík residents and visitors a diverse range of both emerging and established art from across all mediums. Whenever you’re in Grandi, it’s always worth popping by to see what’s on display at Kling & Bang. As one panellist put it, “Kling & Bang is one of the more consistent, tasteful artist-led galleries in town. I will always be interested in what they show.”
Runner-Up:
Gallery Port
Hallgerðargata 19-23, 105 Reykjavík
“I would drop in there on a regular basis before, but because of the move, I don’t anymore because the location does not suit me. Otherwise, it would be my number one pick,” one panellist said about artist-run Gallery Port that last year relocated from downtown Reykjavík into 105 to be replaced by yet another puffin shop. While we still appreciate the platform the gallery provides to emerging artists and look forward to what they’ll bring in 2025, their old Laugavegur location is definitely missed.
