The Faeroe Islands and Greenland will be receiving Christmas trees from Iceland, and this marks the first time Iceland has donated a tree to Greenland.
The City of Reykjavík announced the news today. The trees were grown in Heiðmörk, and were exported from there.
The first tree went to Hans Lynge primary school, in the Qinngorput district of Nuuk, Greenland. It will be officially presented at 18:30 today, Icelandic time, followed by lighting the tree and the singing of Christmas songs in both Icelandic and Kalaallisut (west Greenlandic).
The second tree will be presented to the residents of Þórshöfn in the Faeroe Islands by Reykjavík mayor Dagur B. Eggertsson tomorrow, at 15:30 Icelandic time. This marks the fourth time the Faeroes get a tree from Iceland, and both trees are shipped free of cost by shipping company Eimskip.
