A new Gallup poll shows the Independence Party and the Pirate Party have fairly even levels of support, with elections less than two months away.
Vísir reports that, according to the results of a Gallup poll conducted between July 26 and August 31, the Independence Party and the Pirate Party have the highest levels of support. These results are similar to a Market and Media Research poll released earlier this week.
According to the results, 26.3% of respondents said they would vote for the Independence Party if elections were held today, while 25.8% said they would vote for the Pirates. In the MMR poll, these figures were 24.6% and 22.4%, respectively.
Where other parties are concerned, the Gallup numbers also differed from MMR numbers, with varying degrees of difference. Here, the MMR figures are indicated parenthetically:
The Left-Greens received 16.2% (12.4%); centre-right newcomers Viðreisn received 10.6% (8.8%); the Progressives, who lead the government with the Independence Party, received 9% (10.6%); the Social Democrats received 8.3% (9.1%); and Bright Future received 2.9% (4.5%).
11% of Gallup poll respondents would not disclose who they intended to vote for, and about 7% said they would either submit a blank ballot or not vote at all.
Parliamentary elections will be held on October 29.
