Social Democrat mayoral contender Dagur B. Eggertsson isn’t exactly thrilled about the prospect of forming a coalition with the Independence Party.
Eyjan reports that when asked if he would consider the possibility, he admitted that the idea was less than appealing, but in the end he wasn’t ruling out anything.
“I think the Independence Party has poorly used the opportunities they’ve had since being in power,” he said in part, “and I believe they need to take a break. I think this [idea of a coalition] would be a real long shot. We’ve been polar opposites in city issues. It would take a lot for such a parternship to work.”
He added that he’s paying more attention to how the Independence Party is doing than The Best Party.
“I think that these remaining days until election don’t revolve around the Best Party – it’s obvious that they’ll get strong support – but rather, whether we or the Independence Party get a stronger turn-out.”
