The No Music for Genocide campaign has published an open letter calling for a boycott of the Eurovision Song Contest over the decision to allow Israel to participate. 123 Icelandic musicians have signed the letter.
The letter was prepared in collaboration with the Palestinian organisation Palestinian Campaign for the Academic & Cultural Boycott of Israel and has been signed by a large number of well-known artists. In December 2025, we reported that Sigur Rós had joined the boycott. According to the latest information, they are now joined by Of Monsters and Men, GusGus, Ólafur Arnalds, Bríet, GRÓA, Hatari and others.
International musicians Brian Eno, Massive Attack, Kneecap, Idles, Mogwai, and Macklemore are also participating in the boycott.
The letter states that Israel has been allowed to take part in the competition for the third year in a row despite military operations in Gaza, while Russia was barred following its invasion of Ukraine.
The signatories say this is inconsistent and are calling on public broadcasters, song performers, staff, and audiences to boycott the contest until the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) excludes the Israeli public broadcaster KAN.
Iceland will not participate in the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest.
