Hertex, the Salvation Army’s thrift shops in Iceland, have asked the public to help with monetary appraisals of their merchandise, according to a social media post on February 24. Hertex also seeks bids for the items.

Among the wares is a bust of the former chairman of the Chinese Communist Party Mao Zedong donning a red scarf.

Salvation Army officer Lárus Óskar Sigmundsson told RÚV that the items’ origin and actual value is unknown. Some information is printed on the pieces, exclusively in Chinese. According to Lárus, the Salvation Army has reached out to the the Chinese embassy for assistance in assessing the items.
