Brace yourselves, folks, we got a wild storm coming up. Those of you who were up early will remember the snow blowing and falling in heavy flakes. Rain is also on its way. As night falls, temperatures will drop to around 1° C. The diligent weather app-checkers among you probably remember all the yellow warnings in the western part of the country. Those have all been upgraded to orange, and cover all of the country. Merry Christmas!
In the northeast, a gentle breeze will sweep across the land, just before it becomes an obstinate gale, whipping up snow and freezing temperatures. The Icelandic Meteorological Office’s website says that this weather will quickly cause a storm in the northern part of the country. Strong northerly winds will prevail, but they will be much slower and gentler in the south. The wind will also bring stormy weather to Reykjavík. On the positive side, the temperature is rising today from what it was over the weekend. At least it’s warm enough to snow.
In the East Fjords, the temperature will drop and a storm will blow in. Winds are expected to reach up to 30 metres per second. In short, don’t make any plans. And stay safe.
