Police in Úlfarsárdalur were on high alert at 3:00 on Sunday morning, when they responded to a report that a man had fallen from a third floor balcony. Margeir Sveinsson, auxiliary officer on the scene, spoke with the media. He said the police had to break the lock on the door to an apartment on the second floor of the building to reach the scene where five men were arrested.

The defenestrated man was rushed to Landspítali, and pronounced dead on arrival. According to information from the police, the deceased was a foreign national, along with the five who are in police custody awaiting investigation.

Police in Iceland are allowed to detain the men for up to 24 hours without arresting them. Margeir would not give any information about the relationship between the six men, five in custody, one in the morgue. The investigation is underway, and still in the early stages.
