Beloved lobster bisque maker and famed Sea Baron restauranteur, Kjartan Halldórsson, has passed away aged 75, reports RÚV.

Kjartan spent the majority of his life as a fisherman before opening his quaint little fish shop and restaurant Sægreifinn (The Sea Baron) at Reykjavík Harbour. Kjartan was married twice and leaves behind three sons.

Sægreifinn has over the years become a popular stop for locals and tourists seeking out the restaurant’s signature lobster bisque and around Christmas time the shop is unmissable for Icelanders looking to buy Skate in time for Þorláksmessa (St. Thorlac’s Day) held on the 23 of December.

When Kjartan first opened his shop he was something of a pioneer, but now Reykjavík harbour is filled with trendy shops and restaurants offering up freshly caught fish.

Kjartan’s smiling face as he greeted customers will be missed.
