Banksy In Iceland?

As In: A Polar Bear? Pushing A Shopping Cart? That Must Be …

Banksy may have been to Iceland. A while ago. And he may have left a mark or two. This has not been verified, but whoever did the stencil accompanying this article would in any case surely acknowledge being under the distinguished anonymous British street-artist’s influence. We will leave it up to readers to figure out exactly where this is. The photo was taken by Claudia Regina, in 2012. Apparently, one Graham Lloyd also spotted the piece in 2012. Locals seem to have discovered the artwork more recently, as images shot this summer have started circulating on social media.

Also in 2012, globetrotter Mike Shubbuck posted images of a stencil-graffiti image sprayed on a long deserted house, bidding the reader: ‘You tell me. Banksy or very good Fakesy?’

Concerning the amounts paid for his works at auctions, Banksy has commented: ‘As a kid I always dreamed of growing up to be a character in Robin Hood. I never realised I’d end up playing one of the gold coins.’ If this is indeed a work of his, real estate prices in that particular middle of nowhere may now be presumed to skyrocket. And as regards the bridge, it seems to give reason to hope that we won’t have to deal with seriously destructive glacial floods any time soon.

Update (Oct 1): DV has reported that the polar bear was not made by Banksy, but by the Norwegian street-artist Pobel, who does indeed sport its image on his website. One more reason to join Norway, then?
