White Christmas Eve Predicted

Published December 21, 2011

Meteorologists believe there will be extensive snowfall for the Christmas weekend this year.
As the above graphic demonstrates, the weather forecast for the southwest region of the country this weekend shows snowfall. Although this will be accompanied by high winds, these are expected to calm down on Christmas Day.
Meteorologist Haraldur Eiríksson told Vísir that sleet and hail were predicted for the 23rd, with winds coming in from the southwest and temperatures below freezing. For the following day, however, “It looks like there will be rain or sleet in the beginning of the day [on Christmas Eve], but this will change as the day progresses and snow falls over the country.”
He added that Christmas Day might also see some hail, but snow is expected to win outl.
“We just have to see what will come,” he said in closing. “Precipitation on Saturday is uncertain, but it’s been snow-covered i Reykjavík so far, and we hope it will be for Christmas, too.”
