From Iceland — Four Times More Vasectomies

Four Times More Vasectomies

Published March 11, 2014

According to a new gender survey more men than ever are getting vasectomies. Last year 483 men were sterilised versus 123 women. In 1982 the reverse was true with 581 women undergoing sterilisation versus 37 men, reports Vísir.

In Reykjavík’s annual gender survey, commissioned by the City’s human rights council, it was also revealed that twice as many men entered rehab in 2013 compared to women.

Contrary to public perception, the largest benefactors of welfare are single, childless men. The next largest group to receive welfare were single mothers. However, there are half as many single mothers receiving welfare than single childless men receiving welfare.

Men dominate editorial positions in news media but women dominate editorial positions in weeklies.

The City of Reykjavík has made the full report available online (in Icelandic).
