Iceland’s light summer nights reach their peak this evening with the arrival of the summer solstice.
Weather permitting, people in Reykjavík will see the sun dip below the horizon at just after midnight before rising again at 3am. If the sky is clear, this time of year can be a magical, as you can see below—Iceland’s summer nights are a dreamlike spectrum of pinks and purples, sliding into a fiery gradient of orange and yellow.
Iceland’s weather site, Vedur.is, isn’t looking too promising when it comes to cloud cover, but the weather in Iceland is famously unpredictable, so here’s hoping we’ll see some colourful skies this solstice night.
