The Icelandic National Team for the 2020 Culinary Olympics has won not one but two gold medals at the competition, MBL reports.

As reported, the Icelandic National Team has been training for months, going up against teams from 59 countries.

The Icelandic team’s signature weapon is using local ingredients. As Chef Sigurjón Bragi Geirsson told us, “I can tell you that in the restaurant of a nation we use arctic char in our first course, Icelandic lamb in our main course and Icelandic skyr in our dessert.”

This in fact marks the second time the Icelandic National Team has taken home gold at this competition. They did so last year, where it was dubbed the Culinary World Cup, with team president Björn Bragi Bragason very pleased with their performance.

“We are incredibly pleased with this result, as we have been preparing for this for 18 months,” he said in a statement at the time. “Despite some unexpected events that arose, we have proven here today that the Icelandic national chefs team is amongst the best in the world.”
