From Iceland — More Stormy Weather On The Horizon

More Stormy Weather On The Horizon

Southwesterly winds are approaching the West Fjords today, bringing stormy weather and hail. An orange alert is in effect for this region, as well as Breiðafjörður.

A yellow warning is in effect for much of the rest of the country, except for the eastern coast, where it appears to be calm for now. However, another storm is on its way tomorrow, bringing a blizzard to the central highlands. A yellow warning is in effect for that region.

This weather makes travel difficult. Almost all flights have been grounded, both domestic and international, due to weather. Winter travel advisories are in effect for most of the country, and roads have been closed in many places. Isavia’s website states that Icelandair has cancelled almost all of its flights to and from Keflavík this morning. Flights with other airlines have been delayed until after noon.

We are officially in the stormy season, folks. Time to hunker down with a cup of something hot and a good book. As always, do check the weather forecast and road conditions before venturing anywhere.
