A storm is expected today at three o’clock in the afternoon in the East and Southeast of Iceland, according to the Icelandic Met Office. The winds will be accompanied by heavy rainfall and won’t recede until Sunday morning. Temperatures will increase, however.

Starting in the afternoon around Eyjafall, the winds can reach up to a speed of 35 meters per second and will then progress to Kjalarnes and Hafnarfjallin the early evening where the storm will be at its peak. The weather in the North won’t be comfortable, either, but the winds will be much slower and rain will only occur occasionally.

If you were planning to head out on the open roads today, be prepared for wind and heavy rainfall. Especially if you have plans to hike around the South-Eastern countryside in the afternoon, we highly recommend you to reconsider this. Although the rain will most likely recede on Saturday morning, the wind will stay strong throughout the weekend.

Please drive safely and secure loose items tightly to your car. And always check the forecast before you do travel. Because it’s that time of the year, the weather can change quickly.
