A new video series from the creators of the Trans Teen Survival guide explores the reality that trans people are more than just their transness.

Called #TransAND, the series is a part of My Genderation, an ongoing film project exploring and celebrating trans lives, led by trans campaigners and activists Fox Fisher and Ugla Stefanía Kristjönudóttir Jónsdóttir, who are also the co-authors of the Trans Teen Survival Guide.

#TransAND explores the lives of six different trans people in the UK of diverse backgrounds. Rather than focussing exclusively or primarily on being trans, #TransAND instead seeks to go beyond this. “Often society doesn’t see trans people beyond being trans,” a statement to the press about the project reads, “but this series will focus on what trans people are other than trans.”

The first two videos are already up on My Genderation’s Facebook page, and already reflect the diversity of richness of the subjects.

First up is Charlie Martin, a racing car driver training for the Le Mans 24-hour race, who has also made it to the finals of Ninja Warrior, is an avid public speaker on equality and diversity, and is Stonewall’s Sports Champion in motorsport.

Most recently, there is Kuchenga, a diligent writer and public speaker on pop culture and race, whose writing has graced such publications as VICE and Vogue. She is also working on her first full-length novel, which will feature a trans antagonist.

More videos in the #TransAND series will be posted through May and June. To be regularly updated, follow My Genderation‘s Facebook page.
