A yellow warning is in effect today for the entire Breiðafjörður area, which will see gale-force winds throughout the day today.

As announced on the official site of the Icelandic Met Office, the Breiðafjörður region, which includes the north shore of Snæfellsnes, will experience severe or whole gale winds until this evening.

Winds will have sustained speeds of 20-28m/s, with gusts reaching speeds of up to 40m/s. This is especially the case near mountains. As such, driving in this region may be hazardous, especially small or top-heavy vehicles. Great caution is advised.

Fortunately, these winds should calm down by about 18:00 this evening. That said, it is always advisable to check both the weather site and road conditions before getting behind the wheel.
