The security chief of Kringlan went above and beyond the call of duty to rescue a toy pony for a little girl.

Halldóra Smáradóttir, originally from Akureyri, was recently visiting the capital area with her family. After a visit to the Kringlan mall, Vísir reports, the family realised that their 2-year-old child had misplaced her favorite toy pony. They searched high and low, as the pony holds great emotional importance for the child, but to no avail.

It was then that the family contacted Halldór Gunnar Pálsson, the chief of security at Kringlan. Halldór took the matter seriously, and vowed to do whatever he could to find the pony. His search included going to the main garbage repository of the mall, and conducting an exhaustive search of every bag of trash in the bins therein.

After two hours of searching, Halldór found the pony, rescued it from the garbage, and cleaned it off. He then contacted the family to give them the good news.

“It’s something that has emotional value,” he told reporters. “I’m a dad, and I know what I’d do myself for my daughter.”

The family will be traveling south this weekend to reunite the child with her favorite pony.
