The Red Cross store on Laugavegur will be moving to Skólavörðustígur in order to make room for another hotel.

Vísir reports that the popular second-hand clothing store will be moving from its current location at Laugavegur 12B to another location around the corner, at Skólavörðurstígur 11 (where the florist Blómaverkstæði Binna was once housed), as Center Hotels will be taking over the building. They intend to convert the space into a hotel that will have some 30 rooms.

Center Hotels Director of Operations Eva Silvernail told reporters that the building will need extensive renovations, as it is not entirely fit for habitation as is.

“The process is ongoing, because the building is in delicate condition,” she told reporters. “We are working on this in cooperation with the city, so that the building will look nice and fit in with the street image of Laugavegur. We see downtown as one of our resources, so it is very important to us that all changes made take this into consideration.”

The new location for the Red Cross store will open in February.
