An Icelander has been described by police in Paraguay to be a powerful drug trafficker.

RÚV reports that news of Guðmundur Spartakus first came to national attention when Paraguay media outlet ABC identified him as a prominent drug trafficker, operating in both Paraguay and Brazil, and involved in exporting to Europe.

The same media outlet also reported that he had been traveling with another Icelander, Friðrik Kristjánsson, who has been missing for the past two years.

The news, which was reported in Icelandic media, came as a great surprise to Guðmundur’s father. This was mostly due to the fact that, while the news reported Guðmundur had not been heard from in two years, his father told DV he Skyped with him over the new year.

Friðrik, however, is still missing.
