A bank was robbed on Borgartún just minutes ago, and the suspects are still at large as police deploy helicopters.

RÚV reports that two suspects were seen fleeing the scene on foot, and police were alerted by eyewitnesses after seeing news of a bank robbery in the same area. Police helicopters have been deployed, where they are currently circling over Öskuhlíð (where Perlan is located), as it is believed they may have fled into the woods in the area.

MBL reports that the suspects were traced to the Skeljungur petrol station by Öskuhlíð, where the car they were believed to have used was left behind. From there, their tracks disappear.

According to witnesses at the scene, the bank was robbed by two men; one carrying a knife and the other, what appeared to be a handgun. No one was killed or injured. It is unknown how much, if any, money the robbers managed to get away with.

Helicopters are still circling Öskuhlíð at the time of this writing, and police are searching the area on foot.
