A collision in south Iceland last week has left several injured and one dead, all of them tourists, police report.

RÚV reports that two cars collided on a one-lane bridge in Öræfi, south Iceland, on December 26. In one car was a family from Japan – a man, woman, and their two young children – while a couple from China were in the other car.

The resulting crash resulted in the death of the Japanese man. While other passengers were injured, it is unknown at the time of this writing who was injured or to what extent.

Polce report the matter is currently being investigated by South Iceland police.

While the cause of the crash has not been disclosed, readers should bear in mind that there are numerous one-lane bridges around the Icelandic countryside. Be on the lookout for them, do not hesitate to yield to approaching cars and, as always, observe safe driving speeds when travelling.
