Suðurnes Police have saved a litter of kittens abandoned in a local dumpster.

In all there were three kittens who are believed to have been a few hours old when they were found. Sadly one of the kittens has since passed away.

The surviving kittens are being looked after by animal care professionals in Reykjanesbær until further notice. They are faring well, are warm and have begun meowing.

The police have confirmed that they have tracked down the mother.

“The mother of the kittens is young and scared,” a police representative wrote in the comment section of the post. “She’s sniffing around the cage we set up for her. We will reunite her with the kittens as soon as possible. The mother is grey and white, petite and missing a collar. If anyone is familiar with that description please get in touch.”
