An accommodating local patriot from Breiðholt answered the phone on behalf of the Prime Minister’s Office after calls were accidentally forwarded to her phone, reports RÚV.

“It was no bother,” said Ingibjörg Sigurvinsdóttir. “Actually it really made my day… I am a citizen of this country and ready to serve. Still it’s good nothing [important] happened.”

Ingibjörg told RÚV that she had ample time to answer calls made to the Prime Minister’s Office since she is retired. “But I’m happy to help if they think I can be of use.”

An assistant of the prime minister, Jóhannes Þór Skúlason, confirms the story. It seems that the prime minister’s front desk is always manned but when someone needs to step away, calls are forwarded to the employee’s mobile phone. Unfortunately, the security guard on duty plugged in the wrong number and so the calls were forward to Ingibjörg instead. The security guard then forgot to reroute the calls back to the front desk.

The following morning, the secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office is said to have enjoyed a surprisingly quiet start to the day until the matter was cleared up and the phone calls re-routed back to the proper phone line.
