Iceland Goes Live On Snapchat

Today, Snapchat users can get a “Live Feed” from Iceland, as Icelanders are encouraged to post photos from their country for the rest of the world to see.

Starting today, Icelanders can go to Snapchat and upload photos as a part of “Our Iceland Story”. At the same time, others using the app can go to the “Live” portion and click on the icon for Iceland to witness photos Icelanders are uploading in real time.

Icelanders who choose to go live will be doing so to an extensive, worldwide audience. About 100 million users use the app every day, uploading 400 million snaps daily.

“It came to light in a recent Gallup poll that Snapchat is the second most popular social media outlet in Iceland today,” Ragnar Trausti Ragnarsson, a marketing representative for the telecom Nova, told MBL. “So I believe there’ll be a lot of interest in uploading today, especially for Icelanders in the 18 to 35 age group.”

So far, the snaps have been largely horse based. But fear not, we at the Reykjavík Grapevine are trying our hardest to get involved. If only the corporate-fascists editing the Iceland filter would steer clear of tourist-core and let Grapevine broadcast a series of true and good snaps.
