About 325 new hotel rooms are popping up on Reykjavík’s main street of Laugavegur.

Kjarninn reports that the increase includes expanding three hotels and building two new ones, all along a single street in downtown Reykjavík.

The three hotels being expanded are Hótel Alda (Laugavegur 66-68), CenterHótel Skjaldbreiður (Laugavegur 16) and CenterHotel Miðgarður, located by Hlemmur. In all, this amounts to about 150 new hotel rooms.

At the same time, two new hotels are being built, also on Laugavegur. A 60-room hotel, expected to be ready next summer, is being built on Laugavegur 34-36. Meanwhile, a Hilton hotel is being built on the former site of The Heart Park, near Laugavegur and Klapparstígur (a street that already has at least two hotels). The Hilton hotel is expected to have 115 rooms.

In all, this comes to about 325 new hotel rooms on Laugavegur alone.
