Finance Minister Bjarni Benediktsson says the same city bus driver has given him the middle finger on several occasions when the two happen to be at Lækjartorg.

Vísir reports that Bjarni was a guest yesterday morning on the Bylgjan radio show Bakaríið. Speaking of his daily affairs, the Finance Minister shared a recurring experience with his listeners that has happened when he arrives at the Government Offices across from Lækjartorg, where city buses stop.

“There’s a bus driver who always arrives at the same time there,” he said. “I was coming out of the offices after the election. He was driving the #12, and felt the need to honk his horn and give me the finger. Some blond guy with long hair. I then saw him three times after government meetings, the #12 came and this guy with the finger.”

While emphasising that this does not happen often, he did say that both he and his wife have recently had it happen that strangers give them the finger, “for unclear reasons”.

Bjarni reportedly does not take this too personally. He told listeners that when things get difficult in politics, and his colleagues complain about the stress and the criticism they receive, he likes to quote The Godfather to them, saying, “This is the business we have chosen”.
