The Icelandic Association of Photojournalists has awarded 6 photographers in 7 categories for Best Press Photos 2014, reports RÚV.
DV photographer, Sigtryggur Ari Jóhannsson’s picture of asylum seeker Ghasem Mohamadi who went on hunger strike to protest the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ delay in processing asylum applications won not only Best Press Photo but also Photo Of The Year for 2014.
Best Press Photo 2014 by Sigtryggur Ari Jóhannsson. Ghasem Mohamadi protested the slow application process for asylum seekers by going on hunger strike. He starved for 9 days before being transferred to hospital. He was eventually granted asylum.
