In the month of December and January motorists drove into roughly 50 lamp posts causing damages of up to 10 million ISK, reports Vísir.

This number of accidents involving lamp posts is considered unusually high for the time period and while the damage was reported in 30 of the cases, in 20 cases the motorists simply drove away from the scene.

Additionally, three lamp posts were damaged in bad weather and in one unfortunate case, a lamp post was destroyed when a bus shelter flew into it.

On average it costs 150-200.000 ISK to repair each lamp post, adding up to a total of 10 million ISK spent on repairs in the last two months.
