While reports that Morrissey refuses to hold a concert in Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík are true, reports that he has cancelled a scheduled concert in Iceland are not, reports Vísir.

Halldór Kvaran, with concert promoters RR ehf, who has been working with Morrissey to arrange a concert at Harpa said that negotiations came to a halt when the issue of meat sales at the venue arose.

“From what I understand [Morrissey] does not gig at venues where meat is sold and we can’t control what’s on the menu at Harpa,” said Halldór. “So, Harpa’s out as a venue candidate but we’re looking into other venues we could potentially use instead. It’s not more complicated than that.”

News that Morrissey had cancelled his concert in Iceland due to his vegetarianism has spread across the internet in the past few days with many news outlets referring to a quote the former Smiths frontman allegedly gave to the True To You fan site.

“I love Iceland and I have waited a long time to return,” reads the quote on the True To You fan site. “But I shall leave the Harpa Concert Hall to their cannibalistic flesh-eating bloodlust.”

“It’s kind of like if I said that I didn’t want to gig in a house powered by nuclear energy,” said Halldór. “So, Harpa’s out of the question this time around but we are looking into alternatives and if that doesn’t work out then we’ll drop it.”
