Canadian escape artist Dean Gunnarsson is in Iceland with a ten man camera crew to film for his series Escape or Die! which premieres on Canadian television this spring. In the series Dean escapes from incredibly dangerous scenarios all over the world. Gunnarsson can trace his ancestry back to Iceland and when talking to Stöð 2 evening news he said that he had Viking blood running through his veins. “Hopefully that will give me the courage and the strength to make my escape from that Viking boat.” Gunnarsson said.

Gunnarsson wore a traditional viking wetsuit while he escaped from the basic viking burial ceremony, a purported ship filled with explosives that was then lit on fire.

Spoiler alert!

We don’t understand how (AMAZING!), but Gunnarsson made it with only seconds to spare and managed to swim back to safety. Cold but triumphant, Gunnarsson tells the media that this was one of the hardest escapes of his life. “I don’t know what happens to the fishermen in the sea when they go under because that water just instantly freezes you. The shock. I don’t know if it was the fire on the boat or the cold water coming in. I was very nervous and still kind of in disbelief, this was definitely one of the hardest escapes I have ever done.”
