The National Museum Collection of Photographs and Prints (Ljósmyndasafn Íslands) has received 11 photographs from the Association of Wikimedia users in Iceland (Félag Wikimediunotenda á Íslandi) depicting the celebration of Icelandic women gaining the right to vote on July 7, 1915, reports RÚV.

The gift was bestowed in honour of the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in Iceland which will be celebrated through a number of events throughout this year.

The photographs were taken by Magnús Ólafsson and Þorleifur Þorleifsson and in one of the images, leading Icelandic feminist and suffragette Bríet Bjarnhéðinsdóttir can be seen giving a speech from the podium.
