The Children’s Hospital has reportedly raised 1.7 million ISK through a “neknominate” campaign on Facebook.

Vísir reports that Icelanders have been challenging each other through Facebook to chug a half litre of beer, record it on video, and then upload it. Those who are tagged in the challenge but decline have elected instead to donate money to the Children’s Hospital. Some have also chosen to chug the beer, but also donate money.

All told, just over 1.7 million ISK has been raised for the hospital so far.

Neknomination has been receiving mostly negative press lately, as there have been reports of young people chugging unhealthy quantities of alcohol, resulting in hospitalisation or death. Readers can rest assured that chugging a half litre should, in most cases, not lead to serious results.

Those living in Iceland who wish to donate to the Children’s Hospital can transfer funds to account number 0101-26-054506, kennitala 640169-4949. Drinking beer before, during or after donating is optional.
