Iceland Asked To Be Guest Of Honour At Eurosonic 2015

Published January 27, 2014

Iceland has been asked to attend next year’s famous Eurosonic music festival as Guest of Honour, reports RÚV. Eurosonic is a Dutch music festival held in Groningen each January and is touted as the most important showcase festival for European talent.
Sigtryggur Baldursson, Managing Director of ÚTÓN (Icelandic Music Export), said in an interview that the next step would be fundraising and should that go as planned they would need to announce whether or not the offer is accepted by mid-February.
As Eurosonic is an important festival on the European circuit, Baldursson said the invitation and exposure was on par with Iceland being the Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2011.
Roughly 3000 music industry professionals turn up to Eurosonic each year to tap into what is coming up on the European music scene.
