Mother And Child Held Captive On Christmas Eve

Published December 26, 2013

A man held his one year old child and its mother captive in her home on Christmas Eve. After a three hour siege he was overpowered by police on Wednesday morning.

The man is in his early thirties and lives in Norway, but spent Christmas Eve at the woman’s home, in an apartment building in Mosfellsbær.

He is believed to have treated her violently during the night.

The woman managed to escape from the apartment in the early hours of morning and call for help, leaving their child with its father.

Police and the Special Force arrived shortly but the man, who was armed with knives, threatened the police and to harm the child.

He gave up after three hours siege and was arrested. He’s been adjudged to remain in custody till January 2nd and will be charged for assault, holding people in captivity and for threatening behaviour.

The child escaped unharmed and is now in the care of the mother’s family members. RÚV has no information about the state of the mother after her ordeal.
