Filipinos living in Iceland raised 664,370 ISK to aid their countrymen by setting up a lunch buffet with Philippian dishes at restaurant Bambus in Borgartún on Sunday.
Responding to UNICEF’s Emergency Appeal to help children affected by the typhoon that hit the Philippines last week, up to 50 volunteers gathered to help arranging the buffet.
The turnout exceeded their expectations by dozens. “We ran out of plates and cutlery and the organizers had to run out and get more plates and the kitchen staff had to react quickly and cook more food,” Sigríður Víðis, spokesperson for UNICEF in Iceland, told Mbl.is
Lunch guests could also listen to Philippian children singing songs from their home country and dance group Swaggerific performed as well.
UNICEF in Iceland participates in the global appeal to help the children in the Philippines, to donate you can text “barn” (which means “child”) to the number 1900, and 1,900 ISK will be charged from your phone bill.
You can also call: 908-1000 to donate 1,000 ISK; 908-3000 to donate 3,000 ISK or 908-5000 to donate 5,000 ISK.
