Author and playwright Jónína Leósdóttir will be publishing a new book next month about her relationship with former Icelandic Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, Vísir reports. The book will be titled ‘With Jóhanna.’
Jóhanna and Jónina’s relationship has attracted a great deal of attention worldwide, as Jóhanna was the world’s first openly gay head of state. The couple, who were officially married when Iceland legalized gay marriage in 2010, have not wanted to speak publicly about their relationship before now.
“We have always tried to maintain our private life but we now think the time has come to speak openly about this exceptional story which has spanned nearly three decades,” said Jónína in the book’s press release.
According to Mál og Menning, the book’s publisher, “With Jóhanna” is a story of conflict in addition to being a love story, and will put the women’s relationship in a new light for readers. Jóhanna herself has written the book’s postscript.
