“Interstellar,” a new movie by “Inception” director Christopher Nolan, will be largely filmed here in Iceland, Vísir reports. It is expected that some actors and film crew will arrive by private plane at the Reykjavík Domestic Airport over the weekend.
“Interstellar” is set to be filmed in Kirkjubæjarklaustur, on the south coast of Iceland. The cast is chock-full of stars, including Matt Damon, Matthew McConaughey, and Anne Hathaway, but there has been much secrecy around its plot. Online film sites, however, have revealed that “Interstellar” is set in a future in which corn is only crop which can be grown on earth. Naturally, scientists then have no choice but to journey through a wormhole in search of other, more fertile dimensions.
Iceland has been a popular filming location for many movies and television shows in recent years, providing the backdrop for “Game of Thrones,” “Oblivion,” “Prometheus,” and “Thor: The Dark World,” among others.
