From Iceland — Organised Violence On The Rise

Organised Violence On The Rise

Published June 7, 2013

Organised violent groups have been making a bigger mark in Iceland over the past two years according to the police, who collected an arsenal of weapons from the clubhouse of the Outlaws during an early morning raid yesterday.
Police confiscated rifles, assorted guns, brass knuckles, knives and other weapons in the undertaking of the gang headquarters, RÚV reports. Four members of the Outlaws were taken into custody following an assault and burglary in Grafarvogur on Monday
Police are said to be not surprised about the increase in organised violence, but the development is unfortunate.
“Unfortunately, this is yet another indication that we were on a very serious path since the beginning of 2011. Today we see that the underworld in Iceland has changed considerably and become more serious, ” said Karl Steinar Valsson, a senior officer with the Reykjavík police. ” Things have changed in such a way that it’s more and more common to find firearms and other weapons. This seems to be a trend.”
