Police Carrying Out Inspections Of Airport Rental Cars

Police will be stopping all rental cars leaving Keflavík Airport to carry out individual inspections this afternoon, Vísir reports.
The purpose of these inspections is to ensure that they are in good condition, as police data has shown that many accidents with rental vehicles are due to poor maintenance, according to the Road Traffic Directorate. Furthermore, reports that these incidents are increasing.
The inspections are a joint initiative between the Southwest district police, the Road Traffic Directorate and the Icelandic Road Administration.
Police in the Southwest will be on particularly high alert today for vehicle inspection throughout the district.
