Hamburgers that were suspected of containing horse meat have been recalled.
As reported, a study conducted by The Food Standards Agency in the UK found high amounts of horse meat in frozen hamburger patties that were labeled as beef, or at least not labeled as containing horse meat. The food chain Iceland was among the stores found to be selling the patties.
DV now reports that the Iceland stores in Iceland have, in cooperation with the Health Supervisory Authority of Reykjavík, recalled all of their frozen hamburger patties.
These patties bear the production number (PLU) 21244 and have an expiration date of August 6, 2013. Anyone who has already bought these patties can return them to the Iceland stores, although it is not mentioned if a refund will be given.
