Thousand Eyeglasses For Charity

Published December 19, 2012

About one thousand pairs of eyeglasses will be donated to those in need in South America.
Last week, optics company Pro-optik asked the general public to donate their used and unwanted eyeglasses. Backed by the charity group Vision For All, the glasses would then be cleaned, sorted and sent to those in need in South America.
Vísir reports that nearly one thousand pairs of eyeglasses were donated in about five days.
Maríanna Jónsdóttir, an ophthalmologist at Pro-optik, told reporters that she had donated glasses of her own to Vision For All in the past, finding it to be an “incredible experience”. She considers the work they do very important in “giving people a chance to live a new and better life.”
Pro-optik hopes to collect 2,000 pairs of eyeglasses before Christmas. If you would like to make a donation of your own, you can find their store at Kringlan.
