Mayor Wishes Town “Góðan Daginn”

Published September 3, 2012

Reykjavík mayor Jón Gnarr has rung in Góðan Daginn Day with a special video message.
Góðan Daginn Day, originally started by Gnarr, is a day when people are encouraged to engage in general friendly courtesy with one another – for example, in greeting others with a cheerful “góðan daginn” (“good day”).
In the video below, Gnarr rings in the holiday wearing an ape mask, and telling his dog Tobbi that today is a holiday. In trying to teach Tobbi to say “góðan daginn”, the dog clearly makes an attempt but manages to only bark.
