From Iceland — Killer Whales Caught On Video

Killer Whales Caught On Video

Published July 30, 2012

A group of killer whales were spotted and recorded off the coast of Flatey, peacefully eating mackerel – until a seal appeared.
Reykholar.is reports that Björn Samúelsson sent the video, which was recorded by Jón Þór Sturluson. According to Björn’s testimony, “We were coming to Flatey and when we arrived at the harbour, we saw that there were a lot of people looking at something in the sea.”
In the video, five killer whales – including two males – are eating mackerel. Their dorsal fins and upper bodies are quite visible throughout the meal. Things took a turn for the dramatic, however, when a seal appeared on the scene. The seal was caught by one of the whales, who then tossed it into the air. The ultimate fate of the seal is not known, but it was likely eaten. The whales swam further out to sea shortly thereafter.
