Cocaine Smuggling Bust Involving Elderly Couple

Published June 27, 2012

A recent smuggling bust at Keflavík airport led to the arrest of a couple in their seventies.
Morgunblaðið reports that the couple arrived from Denmark to Keflavík International Airport on May 25 and were stopped to be searched. The search was not the result of any tip-off, but a routine security measure.
In the couple’s possession, customs officials found a large quantity of cocaine. They were summarily arrested, questioned, and released.
However, the questioning led police to arresting another couple in Iceland – a woman in her thirties and a man in his forties. A large quantity of drugs were found in their home, and they are currently still in police custody.
In the wake of the ongoing investigation, a third suspect is being sought. As the suspect is believed to be abroad, an Interpol warrant for his arrest has been issued.
