Winners Of Músíktilraunir Announced

Published April 2, 2012

The Músíktilraunir band competition held its finals round last Saturday.
The competition, intended to unearth new and undiscovered talent who show considerable promise of a bright future, has been going on since 1982. Some big name acts today – such as Maus, Mínus and XXX Rottweiler hundar – got their start at this competition.
This year, RÚV reports, the band RetRobot won the competition. Coming in second place were Þoka, and in third were Funk That Shit! (exclamation point theirs).
The “band of the people”, wherein viewers vote for their favorite band by phone, was White Signal.
In other categories, Reynir Snær Magnússon and Guðmundur Ingi Halldórsson, both from Funk That Shit!, won best guitarist and best bass player, respectively. Best keyboardist went to Heimir Klemensson from Þoka, best drummer went to Sólrún Mjöll Kjartansdóttir of White Signal, and best singer went to Agnes Björgvinsdóttir of Þoka.
The surprise win of the competition was for best Icelandic text, which went to Lena Mist Skaftadóttir of the band Ásjón, a band which did not make it into the top tier.
