From Iceland — Ellen DeGeneres Sighting Turns Out To Be German Tourist

Ellen DeGeneres Sighting Turns Out To Be German Tourist

Published August 4, 2011

For a few hours yesterday, it was reported that comedienne and actress Ellen DeGeneres was in Iceland. Closer investigation later revealed that the person in question was just a German tourist who bears a strong resemblance to her.
Vísir was the first to break the story yesterday morning. They reported that Ellen was in Iceland, “possibly in connection with the Gay Pride festival” scheduled this weekend, and that she was shopping at the suburban mall Smáralind with another woman, “possibly her assistant.”
Vísir spoke to Kristín Reynisdóttir, the owner of the shop Söstrene Grene, where Ellen had supposedly shopped. Kristín said she was surprised to see the actress, whom she described as “pleasant and smiling”.
The customer in question may have indeed been pleasant and smiling, but she was not Ellen DeGeneres – rather, she was a German tourist named Caroline Koch, who happens to bear a resemblance to the actress.
Caroline, who is in Iceland for just a few days visiting Icelandic friends, took it in stride. “We laughed and laughed about this,” she said. “[Being confused with Ellen DeGeneres] has happened to me often, all over the world, but not like here in Iceland, where I ended up in the media because of it.”
Caroline said that she enjoyed her brush with fame, and added that she is a fan of Ellen DeGeneres.
