Renowned journalist and former Newsweek editor Fareed Zakaria, speaking on the CNN segment “What In The World?”, reviews Iceland’s constitutional revision process, and believes America could learn from it.
In the video segment, which you can which below, Zakaria points out that while Iceland’s constitution only dates back to 1944, the 2008 economic collapse prompted the country to initiate re-writing the constitution. By contrast, he points out, the American constitution is considered by many to be an almost sacred document which must never be changed.
The segment also points out that the revision process itself is happening on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, crowdsourcing ideas for what the new constitution could outline.
